A magnetic rotation pump or magnetic drive pump is the combination of conventional pump hydraulics with a mostly permanent magnet drive system. This system uses the attractive and repulsive forces between permanent magnets in both coupling halves for contactless and slip-free torque transmission. Between the two halves of the coupling fitted with magnets is the containment can, which separates the product chamber from the environment. Magnetic drive pumps are used in particular for toxic, odor-intensive or otherwise hazardous pumped media, as the medium remains hermetically shielded from the environment by the containment can.
