Microtiter plate photometers, also called microplate readers, multiwell plate readers are instruments used to detect biological, chemical, or physical processes of samples in microplates. Common detection methods for microplate assays include absorbance, fluorescence intensity, luminescence, temporal fluorescence, and fluorescence polarization. The range of applications for multimode plate readers is extremely diverse. Some of the most common assays are: ELISAs, protein and cell growth assays, protein interactions, reporter assays, nucleic acid quantification, molecular interactions, enzyme activity, cell toxicity, proliferation and viability, ATP quantification, immunoassays, high throughput screening of compounds and targets in drug discovery, bead-based epitope assay.
