Pumps - Membrane pump

The Membrane pump or diaphragm pump is a suction pump for conveying liquids or gases, which is particularly insensitive to continuous stress and impurities in the pumped material. Its operating principle is a variation of the piston pump, but the medium to be pumped is separated from the drive by a diaphragm. It is also similar to the heart, but instead of a mechanically moved diaphragm, it uses contracting muscles. The advantage of this pump is that the separating diaphragm shields the drive from harmful effects of the pumped medium, such as slurries or contaminants in the pharmaceutical or food industries. One of the major disadvantages of the conventional piston pump, the problem of sealing the piston, is thus solved. The diaphragm is deflected either hydraulically, pneumatically, mechanically or electromagnetically.
